This Week: Harp Meditation and Healthy Living Class
Harp Meditation with Betsy Chapman - $20
Tuesday, June 5 at 7pm!

Welcome Betsy! Please join us in welcoming our harpist to Simply Be Well!
Meditation is better for you than just being linked to reduction of stress. Stresses (as small as a crying toddler or a car cutting you off) actually activate the “fight or flight” responses in the human body, a primitive human response that is as old as our very DNA. This response activates our survival instincts. When any event triggers this response, the sympathetic nervous system is activated resulting in decreased respiration (we receive up to 70% less oxygen in our body’s tissues!), decreased digestion, perception of pain and ability to focus, difficulty sleeping, increased vision and quickened more uncontrollable impulses. Our bodies are prepared to flee or fight! Many Americans are perpetually trapped in this stress machine!
Regular Meditation is linked to the reduction of a chemical called Cortisol which has been linked to both stress and over eating. Researchers at the University of Wisconsin have actually linked the meditative state in Tibetan monks with activity in the prefrontal cortex of the brain, contradicting the widely accepted theory that the structure of the human brain does not alter much after birth. Rewiring the brain from regularly entering a meditative state activates the parasympathetic nervous system which increases immune function, reduces the risk of major health conditions such as heart disease and most cancers, increases energy levels, the duration and quality of sleep, respiration and the amount of oxygen that reaches the boy’s tissues, digestion and absorption of nutrients and vitamins, and general well being.
What better way to meditate than with the added beauty of live music made by the vibration of strings! The harp’s wide range of frequencies and overtones are capable of vibrating the dense, physical body as well as its energetic counterpart, providing multi-level stimulation and harmonization.
Join us as we welcome Betsy to the Simply Be Well team and enjoy the beautifully simple effects the harp has on the body!
